trial mixing cod liver oil with it of which we hd a supply the pullets laid quite nicely on this mixture also the yearlings after they wero through the moult early in november production was go per cent or better all through the winter without a letup about the middle of february our cod liver oil boing finished wo changed to marmill sugared egg mash mating up about the same time our first hatch came ofi on april 2 with 7s per cent of good live chickens none of our future hatches were below this and we finished about the third week in may with s7 per cent hatch production has been good and consistent all tliis summer the hens now going into moulting full ot pep and vigour some are already through and laying now but you should see our pullets coo of them from the first hatch there is not one under 3 and a half pounds the average is about 4 lbs and quite a number up to 4 and a half pounds other years wo considered we could grow good pullets but tills season feeding marmill growing mash lias certainly been an eye opener the birds are all so well developed and in great shape to do their bit this fall and winter anyhow at this writing they are making a great start with eggs of good size now running into apullet size and hotter a year ago it took a lot ot persuasion to try marmill poultry feeds today it would take very much more to mako us quit we had always mixedl up our feeds mrs howard pike brumell avenue was the scene of a quiet autumn wedd farmers information cement wash helps the increased use of wallboard in the construction and lining of poultry houses shows that birds sometimes peck at the wallboard material and do considerable dam age an effective way- to overcome this difficulty is to use a mixture of equal parts ot lime and cement mixed with water to the consistency of a thick paste and apply with a brush this mixture forms a hard durable surface on which the birds can make no impression information on tomatoes since the value ot the tomato has been fully realized its pro duction and use has increased tre mendously until now in eastern ontario alone thee ao 2000 growers supplying the canning factories they plant in a normal year over 8000 acres ot tomatoes the centre where most tomatoes for canning are grown consists roughly ot a strip of land five miles wide and extending along the shore of lake ontario from port hope to napanee this includes all of prince edward county in this district there are over seventy canning factories in addition to the acreage grown for canning there is a considerable acreage grown for soup companies who operate in other localities the returns to the growers from this crop amount to approximately soo000 in a year it is essential that these growers know the lates methods and the correct prevention of diseases and insects if they are to succeed and to this end the department has published an exellent circular on the subject which should be in the hands of every tomato grower the bulle tin is very concise and everything is tabulated and easy to find the circular no 53 may be obtained free by residents of ontario by writ ing to the department of agri culture parliament buildings tor onto quality
