travelling along the third concession two miles north of goodwood when the car overturned and he alleges as a re sult of injuries received he had been hindered in the pursuance of his practise suffering from internal injuries the case for the township is in the hands of the legal arm of agar thompson solicitors for the road insurance co with whom the town ship carries accident insurance since the accident dr darling made a claim against the township lor damage to his car received in the said accident and while an offer of settlement was made by the insurance company it apparently was not agreed to and was never completed no claim for personal damage was discussed at that time the council met at goodwood on saturday for their regular october meeting reeve isaac catherwood presided and all members were present when legal notice was served the hydro power commission in formed council by letter that all townships in tho uxbridge area rural power district had passed to reduce hydro contracts from 20 to 5 years except in certain special cases therefore in future all rural contracts which were originally for a term of twenty years may after the consumer has taken power for five dominion two million dollars small army tackled compiliation of dominion voters list monday six days for work forty thousand enumerators are at work this week from oct 15 to 20 at the gigantic task of listing 6000000 canadians on a new and permanent voters list for the dominion the new election machinery is intended within six days to estab lish a comparatively complete re cord of canadians entitled to ex ercise the franchise in the next fed eral election in rural communities approxi mately 14000 enumerators will un dertake the census of electors while in urban centres about 26- 000 will be at work the larger number in urban areas is caused by the provisions of the franchise act whicn requires enumerators of dif ferent political persuasion working in pairs while in rural districts there will be but a single recorder of names the remuneration to rural enu merators will be five cents per name or an approximate total of 150 000 for listing plus an allowance of 10 each or 140000 for three afternoons to be spent in correct ing their lists in urban centres the pay will be seven cents per name per enumer ator the double enumeration will therefore bring the cost of 14 cents per name or 120000 if 3000000 urban names are listed for city enumerators there is no allowance for corrections printing of the lists and reprinting after revision is expected to cost close to 1000000 while the various ap peals and revisions provided for will bring the total expense of prepar ing the first list under the new act to about 2000000 another 500000 will be added annually for salaries of permanent registrars in each electoral district whose remuneration will acerage slightly more than 2000 per year the registrar for east york is mr h a sanders of stouffville who is assisted in his office by miss helen rowbotham probably next week a staff of girls will be em ployed copying and compiling the lists made out by the enumerators there is around 43000 voters in east york pioneer
