night was a treat to watch in the first period altona fairly smothered the union- villo goalie with shots only to have him turn them aside midway in the second period tindall for altona scored on a pass from the corner and a few minutes later hodgins rifled one in from the side catching tho top corner of the net giving the goalie no chance to save period end ed 20 in the third period altona swarm ed around the ice like a flock of angry bees which soon resulted in a goal by reesor he having slipped around the defence to score hod- gins and evans both furnished combination plays that resulted in a goal here the local boys played some great combination with the new forward pass down pat the prettiest goal of the evening came within three minutes of time ken reesor grabbed the puck at his own goal line slipped through the for ward line split the defence wide open and pulling the goalie out of his net pushed the puck into the corner finishing one of the famous reesor rushes the boys certainly deserve credit for their improved showing they should have a strong following when sutton visits here friday j jan 19 sutton won the group last year and altona will certainly try to the advisability ot council keeping the roads opened for winter motor traffic reeve kidd said that he did not feel like opposing any reasonable measure taken to keep roads pass able in view ot the fact that he lived on a county highway which is kept open at all seasons he would be guided by the wishes of the rate payers and other councillors voiced much the same opinion it was ultimately decided to leave the matter in the hands of councillors to take such action as any road division might demand of course in court amounting to 2b coupled with this he asked compensation for loss of time from his work as a painter and for pain and suffering making a total bill of 75 mowder and constable bill beach gave evidence for the complain ant and mr davies on behalf of his wife the owner of the property beach testified that the grounds were open and the public was invit ed to enter in the erea where the accident happened this deemed to be the crucial point of law mr davies said that while the grounds may have been in darkness there were large candle power lights burning from the pavilion aud lie thought mowder should have been guided by these the judge said in giving the 50 verdict that he had a good deal of sympathy for the owner of the premises and while guided by precendent in giving judg ment against him he would reduce the claim to 550 ringwood 20c for turnips
