20 mrs h m brown wife of a former school teacher at bloomington and almira thirty years ago mr and mrs brown re sided in the former place and later moved to almira of recent years they had resided in on satur day afternoon to the markham cemetery miss mccreight was a daughter of the late james imc creight and janet sellers of maik- ham and had been ill for a year she was a women of kindly dis position and was highly respected and will be greatly missed she was a member of the presbyterian church and a halfsister to mr james mccreight on the 9th concession of markham and bad been living at home with her an aged uncle roht hope of goodwood and mrs fred johnson of claremont were cousins of the deceased i tho funeral was attended by many lifelong friends and the service was taken by her pastor rev w h fuller assisted by rev mr good rev mr fuller sang a very touch ing solo during the service the pall bearers were all cousins to tho de being louis reesor russel gordon sellers william orval hisey and the local junior hockey team mado their first appearance in oiia hockey at stouffville arena on tuesday night when the league opened with bradford as the visit- ingteam despite the fact that every lad on the lineup was playing his first game in the big oha field they made a surprisingly good show ing and while they lost by 3 to 5 it is really nothing to be ashamed of bradford has long been known as a live sporting town- and supplied j players for the victorious aurora j juniors last season the first period in tuesdays game ended without a scoro on either side and murray holden notched the first in the second period to start the scoring for the evening bradford came back to tie the count and the period ended a tie harry holden and joo ward netted the remaining scores for tho locals while the boys from the cauliflower centre piled iu four and the game ended 3 to 5 in favor of bradford the visitors had a strong even lino of players who have great promise but with tion three years ago following one of the most sensational years in tho history of tho village or at least since the water works was so bitterly fought reeve sanders iu his year saw the fine new pavement laid down here which has become tho pride of the village and a credit to tho community in mon days election reeve sanders de feated wilfred e mordeu by 30 majority mr mordeu held the posi- tion for three years and was look ed on as a successful reeve who hud given many hours of his time to the business of the village despite the fact that monday was ono of tho most treacherous days for people to be on the street because of tho glaring ico everywhere the vote polled was heavy it is estimat ed that at least 475 of tho 700 voters were on hand to record their ballot unofficially we are informed that so persons cast ballots for councill ors but did not vote on the reeve ship six people voted for both candidates for reeve and spoiled their ballots arthur e weldou again headed the poll for councillor with a sub stantial lead over his nearest runn ing mate and with a larger poll than any candidate in the field for any office mervyn watts another member of the 1933 council ran second with a large poll the two now faces on the council are former councillors of other recent years be ing ross bown and walter brilliu- ger the defeat of george dowswell a member of the council for the past threo years came as a surprise to his workers and no one is offering a guoss as to why he was overlook ed by tho voters this time tho new council should be as capable as any that ever sat in this
