loft for chicago they will hvo in toronto on thoir return mr feastors first wifo was poarle woodgate sister ot our mrs e j davoy the toronto papers featured a story last week wherein our chas dadson of whitchurch township was taken in toe by the police at barrio for guestioning concerning a lire at the farm of chas robin son near barrie which started from a mysterious cause and destroyed his buildings and the seasons crop after a thorough investigation by tho fire marshal in his report on the blaze at robertsons found tho cause to be due to spontaneous combustion the loss was 9000 with insurance of 5000 and an adjustment by the company of 3460 it seems apparent that the fire started in the north mow which con tained some old clover hay in the bottom about a foot deep and on top of this there was eleven feet of lucerne clover and timothy about 13 tons this new hay had been cut about the middle of july cut one day raked up the second after two teddings and placed in cock for three or four days before placed in the mow and salted 150 lbs to 35 tons three weeks later this hay was covered with grain the mow being filled up to the roof this grain was threshed off the hay on aug 26th just fivo days before the fire no thieves or tramps had bother ed the robertson premises and no enemies suspected but they thought that some person had entered the barn and fired it in some way imrs forbes felt sure that tho mysterious stranger with a parasol had figured in tho fire but this man proved to bo c dadson who was on his way from newmarket to orillia to seek work investigation showed that he was a hard working honest man well spoken of by those who knew him tho conclusion reached was that spontaneous combustion in the hay mow caused tho fire mixture of grasses in tho hay its hasty hand lings curing and light salting left every room for self ignition when weight of grain was taken off faced with shortage of grain and rising prices together with lower hog prices w leathers burford farmer has found it necessary to de stroy a litter of sixteen pigs other farmers near norwich have offered to feed three more expected litters lor him on condition they are allowed to numerous gifts coupled with best wishes regardless ot what r b bennett or the people of canada generally are inclined to think about immi gration from europeau ceutres the stouffville gold fish supply co have literally takeu the matter in to their own hands and recently there arrived at montreal aboard a big icpr liner a choir of no less than 10000 voices second only to their wonderful voices was their gorgeous dress colorful and gay in the extreme and varied too while the passage for this group direct from the continent was all arrang ed by the local gold fish co under whose auspices they arrived tho songsters did not come direct to stouffville but broke up on leav- ing tho ship and some went to western canadian cities while others took the train for halifax and other centres in the maritimes the enterprize displayed by tho local firm in bringing to canada such a valuable choir unique in every respect is commendable and the work in arranging contracts for them at various points throughout the larger cities was no small task the warblers will be shown on the screen sometime as the movie men were on the job and took pic tures before the group disbanded at montreal wo almost forgot to mention that the 10000 singers are composed of song birds of the choicest plumage and singers of note that could bo gathered on the continent in addition to the sale of these birds the gold fish co incidentally create a wider market for their lines of bird food and supplies building already in progress or seriously being considered at mussel mans lake indicates that old man depression is
