interest center ed around the school board than is noticeable over municipal boards hence an acclamation would be the usual thing while ratepayers take a keener interest in the affairs or doings ofhho municipal council the school board is none the less im portant they have the handling of about as much money as the other body and have it in their power to put added costs on the school that would affect the local taxes but like the councillors are doing their best to keep expenses down nomina tion for school trustees for another two year term will he held at the same time and place as the on friday evening jan 13th and will again be assisted by the college symphony orchestra of 25 players patrons of this annual choral event are requested to keep this date open the toronto star says concerning the orchestra dr mcmillen tho conductor of the toronto symphony orchestra has expressed his genius for choral work as established in toronto under such remarkable leaders as torrington vogt fletcher ham and frickor ar unbroken line of splendid choral masters it was revealed at the last meet ing of the municipal council that seven star boarders had been re cently kept by the municipality at the mansion house three being put up on the same nignt it was pure hard luck that the three transients were laid up here it happened on a saturday when they were riding tho bumpers to toronto spotted by the train crew as the 3 oclock was about to leave the local depot the trio was put off and then sought a nights lodging off the town the board for these knights of the road is costing from 100 to 5125 per night according to the number of meals served them so far the coun cil has not sought to exact any work such as some places have done in lieu of the free fare handed out constable pugh pre served hence this paper has no actual record of its earlier sub scribers from time to time how ever receipts of ancient ventage and other information come to hand showing some of our readers rank from the first issue published about 45 years ago renewing his sub scription to the tribune a few days go mr sylvanus baker of lemon- villo recalled that he was quite a young man when he first subscrib ed tho paper was published in tho present shaw block and mr baker added his name to the list of sub scribers to sort ot help tho enter prise along it was a four page paper at that time mr baker was en the farm then where his son otto now resides and which farm has been in the family to the fourth generation 42n ratcliff co on december 11 1932 we completed fortytwo years of business service meeting the everchanging business conditions satisfactorily it is with pleasure we review our rela tions with our large and ever increasing number of patrons and take this opportunity to wish to all the seasons greetings of goodwill and happiness our aim for the new year will be as in the past the highest quality at the lowest price tho cost of hydro power to mun icipalities over on yongo street is little more than half that imposed on stouffville or markham if all tho municipalities are obtaining power at actual cost of delivery it is strange that there is such a great variation although it might bo un derstandable to those more conver sant with tho system than is the average user the village of stouff ville for instance is paying for power delivered to the suburbs of the village 47 per hp to which is added 250 por hp to tako care of our portion of tho american ex change on monies borrowed by tho commission in tho usa to pay for tho capital setup to our 50 per hp charge is added tho cost of the old plant the dobt on which will bo all paid in another three years in tho meantirhe stouffville cannot ob tain very attractive rates for its users and tho danger is that after the old debt is wiped out the hydro commission may so operate things as to add other burdens to our system that will offset the present payment on old plant stouffvillo must aim for rates more in comparison with those obtained eleven miles away on vongo street we have been able to secure something out of the ordinary hallowii pitted dates these are the finest dates obtainable and
