march 27 while mr and mrs b reesor and family had dinner with them mr o madill one of the mer chants of our vlllago must intend to do some driving soon as both of his vehicles were in the garage on monday ot this week a large audience gathered in the stouffville united church on good friday night april 25th to hear the choir of that church under tho leadership of mr robert leslie sing mauuders lovely easter cantata entitled olivet to calvary thero have been many occasions in the past on which splendid choir have presented concerts services of song or other cantatas but it questionable whether any ever acquitted itself with more credit than the present organization did on friday last tho cantata which deals with outstanding incidents during the last few days of our saviours life on earth commencing with his triumphal entrance into jerusalem and ending with his crucifixion is highly inspirational in character and judging from the rapt attention of the listeners as the story was unfold ed by soloists and chorus it was quite apparent that the significance of the service was being borne in upon them the choir was fortunate in havin secured for the occasion two soloists of merit the tenor soloist was mr carson wideman a young man with a voice of good quality mr roberts k williams of tor onto who was heard here some weeks ago was the baritone soloist as those who heard him previously will remember mr williams has a mellow well modulated baritone voice which is very pleasing to the ear he did his work with evident authority and we feel that it is not too much to say that his singing was the inspiration which was re quired to enable the choir members to do the excellent work which they did in the various choruses the latter were well done and were sung with a knowledge and an apprecia tion which is too often lacking in their work we must not close without pay ing tribute to mrs harold lewis who sang so splendidly the several so prano solos which were her portion nor to miss anne lehman the very capable accompanist mr leslie the conductor must have been very gratified with the work of his choir and the hope was expressed that he may feel encour aged to attempt
