serious illness of the past few weeks left little hope of recovery but the final passing of so beloved a father and friend was none the less a blow to the family and others who knew him the funeral this wednesday afternoon to stouffvillo cemetery was very largely attended the service at the late home in tho west end was conducted by rev t laidlaw and was more of a private nature followed by a public service in the church after interment the late jos mowder was born at pine orchard north of here his father william mowder being one of the pioneer settlers in gwillim- bury twp joseph was the eldest of the family of four brothers and one sister all of whom have passed away as a young man of 30 he located in markham township where he married elizabeth hoover daugh ter of the late daniel hoover of the 10th concession mr mowder was a successful farmer and spent 13 years on the 8th of pickering and 8 years at altona prior to moving to stouffville 15 years ago when he retired to come to town he held one of the best farm stock sales ever conducted in this district of altona besides his faithful wife deceased is survived by six children and seven grandchildren the immediate fam ily is sirs lloyd turner miss mae mowder frank and joe mowder mrs chas barkey and fred mowder with the exception of jos iu tor onto the children all live in this locality the pall bearers for the funeral on wednesday were messrs tlewis james slack arthur weldon john cleaver sam hoover and frank stiver among the churches ballantrae the annual chicken pie supper and programme of the ballantrae united church will be held on wed nesday october 28 reserve the date appeal for relief for the famine stricken in our western provinces the business and young mens bible class of stouffville decided at their
