appointment ross hall relieved to have fainted when diving a drowning accident occurred at lake musselinan on friday evenin isst when ross hall fourth son of mr and mrs dan hall of whit church lost his life while swimm ing oh the north snore the un fortunate young man went down in view of several companions al ia ist before they realized he was in danger dr sangster and another medical mai from thieves evidently entered shaws store first and successfully carried out their work without be ing detected entrance was gained by removing the plate glass window in the door at the main entrance tools for the work ivere secured by the robbers at murray hills black smith shop going on to e a buttons hardware attempts wero made to jimmy the rear doors and windows but when this failed to admit them to the main store they smashed in it side window admitt ing them into the store from the cast side of the building the crash alarmed mr ana mrs george valder who live in the hoover house across the road and arising they watched the thieves move about in the store by aid of flash lights there were three in the group mrs valder then telephoned buttons residence but this evident ly alarmed the burglars as- the tele phone is a party line with the store and the thieves immediately de camped on hearing it ring on receiving the news over the phone mr button in his night at tire rushed up town in his dodge car and learned that the car carry ing the robbers and the goods had gone east unexpectedly however as he stood in the store the car came back from tnc east and flew through town at a high rate of speed mr button rushed out of the store turned his own car around and gave chase but the fleeing car had a good start on him and he gave up the run downon the sth of markham constable pugh was early on the job when the toronto police were at once communicated with and all roads watched early wednesday morning however a car answering the description of the one used by the thieves was found abandoned in the north part of the city and in it was an alarm clock likely taken from the hard ware the police are said to be on the trail of the whole affair and it is confidently hoped the goods will be recovered in addition to the valders seeing the robbers mrs mcdonald mrs shankel and others living on main street were soon aroused mrs shaw was summoned by mrs shankel and quite a crowd gathered right after the affair happened in buttons hardware the robbers were able to enter the law oflice of mr f l button who contrary to his nightly practise had failed to lock the valt the robbers entered this and located a small steel box which they might have slipped in their pocket about ten inches long containing 150 in bills which they failed to see in the bottom of the box a small tray in top of the box contained a lo gold piece and this was taken evidently the thieves worked in haste and partly in the dark among the churches christian churches bioomixgtox and ringwood axd
