extended motor trip as far as calgary mr ratcliff writes from alberta as follows we travelled from sudbury to the soo by motor where we crossed into northern michigan and wiscon sin on to northern minesota and dakota then into manitoba leaving winnipeg we took the across cana- da highway again passed through i saskatchewan and southern alberta j to calgary this highway is of fine gravel and very smooth a beautiful road except in one or two sections where the government is straighten ing curves and making some repairs and it passes through most all the principal towns and cities in the waters from the north divide part flowing into alberta and part into b 1c which means part into the pacific ocean and the other part to the atlantic here we crossed into b c following the course of the c p r over roads that are beauti fully smooth but in many places only wide enough for one car to drive and so high up on the mountain side that a freight travell ing below looks almost like a string of matchboxes moving along we followed the course of kicking horse river and soon began to descend in to the yo ho valley and the town of field then through yo ho national park to golden from which place we followed the columdia riverpassing sinclair canyon and passing through the beautiful natural gate way to radium hot springs there we saw 200 feet above us the cpr hotel surrounded by numerous bungalows furnished with running water lovely beds and bedding to rent single or double at 200 for each bed on the lower road which widens out to about 80 or 90 feet are ice cream parlors and another hotel and just outside the passage way for cars where your registra tion is required before crossing into alberta again you see a beautiful large bath supplied with very hot water flowing out of the mountain side there are many dressing rooms for gentlemen and ladies a couple of hundred yards further on a little lower down is a splendid tourist camping ground supplied with large stoves wood ready for firing beautiful water and all other equipment necessary for comfort after a stay here over night we journeyed along the kootenay river through kootenay national park passing beautiful marble canyon and other lovely sights wo would like to mention wo begin to climb again and next reach castle mountain where we took the trail again to banff and home s5 miles to calgary these mountain roads are not made tor nervous reckless or drunk en drivers for on some of the sharp turns you may hear some of tho coarser gravel stones rattlelng down for a 1 miles if not stopped by largo ones on the way this is a trip ever to ho remembered to sow seed or not to sow seems to bo the dobatcablc question among residents along main street who are all confronted with tho task of growing grass on
