the outcome or the murder case in the north country which created so much local interest be cause dean kestei an old stouff ville hoy was defending the finlan- der on trial for his life mr kester put up a notable fight and saved his client from the gallows relating to the case the porcupine paper last week says pertilli rintakonne the finlan- der from south porcupine whose case was on the docket at cochrane at the fall assizes for a second trial on a charge of murder in connection with the death of a fellowcountry man at south porcupine in novem ber last year and who was freed of the charge on instructions from the attorneygeneral was taken on monday of this week to halifax to be placed on board the king oscar or deportation to finland since the withdrawal of the charge at the fall assizes this year rintakonne has been held in the italleybury jail pending proceedings under way to secure his depot tation to the coun try from whence he came the opinion of the authorities seemed to be that if there were a doubt or two asto his guilt in thomatter for which lie was charged and tried and for which he was scheduled to have a second trial previous to the imici of withdrawal of the case as sent from toronto by tht attorney- general there did not seem to be any doubt in the minds of the au thorities as to his undesirabiiity as a citizen as a consequence officer howell of the immigration dept at ottawa went to haileybury to escort rintakonne to the ship at halifax for deportation to inland his na tive land rintakonne was arrest ed last yoir and charged with the murder of julius niemi at south porcupine on nov 11th 1928 he came befoie the spring assizes at cochrane this year and the case looked black against him however tlie- court allotted him counsel and he was fortunate enough to have dean kester of timmins as his lawyer for the trial a strenuous battle was put up for rintakonne and the jury after a verdict of not guilty were sent back to consider the case j they returned later and told mr justice wright the presiding judge that they could not agree the case was set over to the assizes this year but the attorneygeneral of ontario took a hand in the matter and sent word to cochrane that the charge against rintakonne be with drawn which was done two years for speech foul use of obscene language to young girls on the streets of tilsonburg re cently resulted in earl becroft til- tonburg hotel employee being -ien- ttneed to two years in portsmouth penitentiary by magistrate paterson in county police court to some that may seem a stiff sen tence for a trifling offence but it is really not so it should be a lesson to some of our foulmouthed youth not to use such language on any oc casion or in any company it is well to know that there is a decision of the council which met in special session on friday evening last all the members of the council were present and dr j p wilson xloh and geo gee members of the board of health were in attendance it was explained that a public health nursing demonstration was now being conducted in vaughan township and the village of wood- bridge and that an opportunity had been offered richmond hill to parti cipate in this free service the only condition of the offer was that since richmond hill had enjoyed the free demonstration last year that the board of health should give the pro vincial
