the chief items of business were the passing of accounts and dealing with the situation on the h igh school start owing to the resignation of principal stouffer up to the pre sent time after diligent advertising ony two answers have been received for the vacancy and neither of them looked like suitable ones at all paper called to account the chairman took exception to mr stouffer resigning at such a time in the school term and also said that some statements appearing in tho paper were very wrong he un derstood that this paper or the tor onto star had printed an item saying the school iboard was holding mr stouffer at his present salary be cause he could not secure a princi- palship anywhere else until he had completed his ba course the scribe for this paper being present at the meeting was called upon to explain and when we assured the chairman of the meeting that no such article had appeared in print the matter was dropped what this paper complained of and still com plains of as the lax methods of the school board in carrying on as a board not properly constituted with one member resigned and another living in toronto they were quite unprepared to deal with m stouffer promptly enough to secure his ser vice for a further term also the paper article pointed out that mr stouffer had asked for an increase in salary and the board should have either granted the request or looked for another teacher at midsummer in not doing so they find themselves in the present plight mr lloyd rather supported the chairman in hi remarks amout mr stouffers resignation to the extent of saying mr stouffers conscience might keep him awake at night the other members offered no objection or voiced no protest because mr stouffer resigned at this period it was reported to the board that liberal advertising for a teacher had been done the past two weeks but no results were forthcoming mr macleod was directed to interview the school inspector in toronto on his return to the city and report to the board as to what steps should be taken to meet the situation miss dowswell was authorized to spend 10 for agricultural work in the school extras kept down on the advice otthe architect contractor
