left their car they stated that they were required to cover the county in two days con sequently they must not tarry it was arranged that engineer rose would submit a report on the possibility of hours and a half fo the members to relieve themselves of the surplus oratory wrapped within their breasts tlie estimates for the year wero up for consideration and proved a knotty problem it is proposed to spend around 1000 for street gravel ling 500 fo sidewalks and nearly 100 for additional street lights the matter of installing a furnace at the municipal building that would heat the fire hall was also talked of but definite action was not taken it be ing deemed too early in the season to have the work done water rates cut it was decided to reduce the water rates by half the income last year from domestic water users and meter users amounted to 3100 and the upkeep was 700 the reeve thought with the rate cut in half there would be money left for a sinking fund and councillor borinsky proposed that this fund be 1000 per year un til a fair reserve was built up councillor dowswell 1 suggest that we collect no water rates at all in july why make a sinking fund it only creates a desire to spend money let those who use i he water in the future pay for any repairs as we have done in the past a motion was submitted by coun cillor borinsky thus that the dis count on water rates be reduced from 15 to 50 per cent and that meter customers be charged 9c per 1000 gallons instead of 12c this motion carried with councillor dowswell in opposition reeve votes on tic reeve sanders was called upon to break a tie vote on a motion sub mitted by councillor ward to com- pell the streets committee to clean out all ditches in the month of nov ember so that they would be clear for the spring freshets to get away councillor ward submitted this mo tion that the road committee be in structed to clean all ditches in nov ember he handed the resolution to councillor dowswell chairman of this committee and asked him to second the resolution- councillor dowswell i wont second it and we wont do it either a verbal battle ensued and finally councillor borinsky seconded the motion and the reeve demanded a vote for the resolution stood coun cillors ward and borinsky against stood councillors dowswell and -mc- kinnon the reeve said he would oppose it the committee would know enough to do that work any how while the mover of the motion retorted that previous committees did not know enough to do it the motion was accordingly killed who should do the trim another verbal encounter ensued when mr w h todd asked the council to place a light on shaw street running from swifts garage south to a couple of houses he own ed at the south end of the street it was discovered that the trees ob structed the light at the corner and councillor ward submitted that him self and councillor mckinnon be authorized to trim the trees on that street this precipitated another what about a dominion day
