robert j beatty and ra smith the session j was featured by the presentation of i the auditors report for the year i 1927 which showed a surplus for the year of 110091 this figure was reduced to 24091 when mem- bers of the council insisted that an i item of sg0 for a bridge which was built last year but paid for this year i be included as a liability at the end j of 1927 when this was included the report on motion of deputyreeve3 j stiver and padget was adopted j the report as adopted shows the assets of the township to be out standing taxes 2259421 taxes i returned to county 616612 road j year 11- 61350 which is off set by a surplus at january 1st 1927 of 993831 and an amount of 191610 trans ferred from suspence hecount mak ing a total of 11s5441 and a sup- plus of 24091 there was considerable discussion regarding the collection of munic ipal farm taxes deputyreeve padget claimed that the county edit- cational tax should have been collec ted as it was the agreement that the city of toronto should pay all edu cational taxation clerk g am davison and reeve gohn argued that it was their understanding of the agreement that the city was exempt from all county tax clerk davison explained that the matter of the jail farm taxes was based on a gentle mans agreement made by mr pad- get when he was reeve of the town ship and the levy had been continu ed on the plan then agreed to as he understood it he did not doubt that the agreement was a good one at that time but if mr padget had it in writing and on file there could be no misunderstanding of it mr padget then i think the be3t thing we can do is appoint the clerk to have a new agreement drawn up with the city of toronto then well bo sure that its done right mr davison ill be glad to do that if i am appointed reeve gohn speaking to mrpad- get before i became reeve did the city of toronto get a bill for any county tax mr padget no but there was no county education tax then how could we render a bill for a tax that was not in existence at that time the special tax came on two years- ago for county education and should have been collected the members of the council want ed to know why the bill for a bridge built last year and paid for in janu ary was not included as a liability in the auditors report for the year 1927 reeve gohn explained that the reason was that the bill had not been presented although he was very anxious that it should have been paid last year he was not sure that since the bill was not presented whether it should lie considered a liability or not ho remembered the case of a grader purchased some years ago which was purchased in one year and not paid for until the next and it was not listed as nllabil1ty mr padget contended that this was an entirely different case that grader was bought by the council at the exhibition for tho next years work and on the next years terms you will remember that mr reeve you were there and agreed to it said mr padget reeve gohn i didnt agree to it and i wasnt there councillor smith it m agreed to by the council of the year the auditor was appealed to and agreed that tho bill for the bridge should be listed as a liability since the work was done in 1927 he also ruled that the work now being comj plctcd at doncaster park could not he taken as a liability against last year when the work was done this year there was considerable discussion as to what was a surplus and as to what was not a surplus deputy- reeve padget wanted to know whe ther the surplus reported by the auditor was a liquid surplus cleik davison not unless you want to sell the township hall road machinery etc mr padget what is the road machinery valued at and what is al lowed for depreciation clerk at 5960 and no deprecia tion was taken off reeve gohn the road machinery i think is valued the same as last year and wo added one tractor to it mr padget i think you could cut the valuation in half and be nearer right clerk davison in regards to the last equipment you bought the trac tor and road maintainor ill give you twice what you paid for it if youll pay the 34o rental which was due at that time mr padget was there any re placements and repairs as a result of this rental mr davison there might have been a little but there were many trips out about it for which the township did not pay and i would like to state here that i would be glad to be relieved of doing any work for the township or selling any goods or equipment that is frankly speak ing my own feelings on the matter the township renewed its insur ance with the globe indemnity co for an annual premium of 372 thi is an increase of 105 due as the re presentative explained to the increas ed hazard due to the increased traf fic the increased speed limit and the introduction of the liquor control act on motion of dep reeve stiver and dep reeve paget a record of all farm sales during the past year will be obtained from the registry office on motion of messrs padget and beatty dep reeve stiver and coun cillor smith were appointed a com mittee to consider the repairing or renewing of the sheds at township hall and the building of a lavatory also to consider the advisability of constructing a vault in the basement of the ihalt fred shedloek of locust hill ap plied for the position of road fore man on div no 4 he complained in his letter that last year one man got all the work which he does not think is a square dear for the rate payers the tax collectors presented their rolls which were received only a smaili number of accounts were presented tor payment sis thats the
