his advanced years could not survive but his rugged constitution stood him in good stead and for some weeks he had been about town almost daily although he could not accomplish the work he loved so much to do last week he was seized with a severe attack of kidney complaint the nature of which made his case at once serious on ficjay while in a serious condition he was bright ami able to talk but on snurday ho sank into unconsciousness from which he never rallied the late joel nendick was born in weaverthorpe yorkshire england on dec isth 1848 thus he reached his 78th birthday tne day prior to his passing away when 21 years of age he was united in marriage with emma nelson in st marys church scarborough yorkshireand that same year the couple sailed for canada they located first at aurora coming to stouffville 54 years ago where they remained ever since by honest toil and the assistance of a faithful wife mr nendick soon ga thered the comforts of a good home work to him was not mere toil for he was never more happy than when performing a days work indeed after his severe illness with pneu monia to be unable to perform a heavy days task was one thing which broke his spirit and up to last summer he could hold his own despite his age with men of prime years to mr and mrs nendick were born eleven children of which four sons and two daughters survive besides his bereaved wife they are mrs f f saunders of toronto mrs jb doten stouffville george nendick of calgary nelson of lake francis 1 man frank of toronto and charles at home in 1919 mr and mrs nen dick celebrated their golden wedd ing anniversary in a very fitting manner deceased was a member of the york pioneers a firm be liever in liberalism and a consistent member of the methodist church for many years since the erection of the present united church building mr nendick had been its faithful and painstaking caretaker until his retirement a short time ago with his life partner who is two years his senior and
