received the sad and unexpect ed news en monday evening tc the effect that their eldest son wiimot h kester had died suddenly at his home in chatham mr kester had just partaken of his evening meal when he was suddenly overcome by a weak spell and passed away almost immediately the late wiimot kester spent his holidays at the old home here and had just returned to chatham on the monday previous to his death feeling in the best of health he was 41 years of age and leaves a wife but no family the funeral today thursday takes place from the home of his parents with interment at stouffville cemetery stouffville war veterans according military honors the deceased had a commendable military career at the early age of 17 years he enlisted with the canadian mounted rifles at prince rupert sask and went with the canadian forces to south africa at the time of the boer war later he served in the imperial army in england and at one time was also a member of the canadian volunteer militia at the time of the san francisco earthquake he was in the american navy and stationed on an island in san francisco bay when the earth quake wrought the great damage which is well remembered he was one of the naval forces which took charge of the city when it was placed under martial law in 1915 he enlisted at toronto in the slst infantry battalion and served in france from the time his unit landed in france until the end of the war he was in some of the most important engagements in which the canadian forces partici pated amongst them being the bat tle of the somme ttie ypres salient and vimy ridge at the time of his death he was the recipient of a pen sion from the canadian government for injuries received overseas the deceased had been a wide traveller having spent considerable time
