decoration day service held by the stouffville war veterans rev j templeton rector of christ church of england was the speaker of the afternoon and delivered a forceful message from isaiahs gospel wherein he wrote these words call to rememberance these thing- and call yourselves men the speaker made frequent refer ence to the great war and predicted that some day god would reveal to us why such a terrible conflict was to be and the advantages of the stronger nations protecting the rights ot the lesser bodies if the war stood for anything it stood for liberty and we also called it a holy war when the cannon roared and the din of battle was on but how do we refer to it today have we forgotten that it was a holy war another point brought out by mr templeton was the thought that if half the energy which the nations exerted in the war was manifest in gods war against sin this would be a vastly better world at the conclusion of the service a parade was formed headed by the stouffville band and followed by a large number of citizens marched to the cemetery where the graves of all departed war veterans were each decorated with a beautiful wreath cleanliness a visit to our shop will irregularities being unearthed today in connection with men in responsible positions isi astonishing government and baukj officials are being properly dealt with and now comes the enquiry into hydro matters it looks as ifj there is real cause for an investiga- j lion into the settel charges and the ontario government should see that the charges against gaby and lucas i are thoroughly probed and aealt with in the manner ot those against peter smith who is now serving a jail term owing to the steady increased cost of hydro since the war there is anothei cause for investigation vater is jast as tree today as before lie war and there should be no advance excepting in material and operation and it is the latter item vcliich runs so high there has not been any reduction since the war wages in the salaries of the little army it takes to operate the offices of the hydro electric commission although farm produce has greatly reduced j though sir adam beck is a rich man he still pulls down 1s000 per year for the abuse he has to take in promoting itie great wnite light that has brightened many a dull home but perhaps his vision is worth that to ontario then there is the man now under the pub lic inquiry f a gaby who pulls down the enormous salary of j17000 the latest figures we have show that he actually got 17400 for his yearly services which is enough for any man to keep a wife and family on in addition it ought to build that fine home he is charged with having run hydro material into without paying the commission hon ikey lucas whose sons are charged wth getting fat rakeoffs from hydro insurance was getting the commendable handout of 7200 for part time another salary with which the recipient ought to have been able to keep his family without wirepulling for his sons lets have a real cleanup in this hydro matter and it there has been crooked work then penitentiary for the offenders is mild enough the wave of crime in this district as well as in other pans seems to go uninterrupted despite the attempts of the police to round up the offen ders last friday fight three stores iu uxbridge were broken into being a drug store clothing store and a gro cery where clothing
