occurred last wednesday i evening about seven oclock some 1 eighteen cars laden with stone from sudbury were derailed about one mile and a half south of the town j fortunately none of the train crew were injured but very serious dam age done to the track the rails be ing completely torn up in some places the cause of the accident is reported unknown although it is supposed that some bolts must have come out of an axle on one of the flat cars thus causing the derail ment some inconvenience was caused the travelling public on the line on wednesday evening as the trains from the north and sangster in the chair the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed the following communications were received from ontario asso ciation board of tradesdepartment of highwaysand the heaton joining the board of trade nirdaskcd if it was constitu tion he also thought that it would put life and backbone in the board of trade and promised that he could get several to join moved by dr freel seconded by dr smith that this board recom mend to the stouffville council to formulate some scheme whereby they could build a curb in front of the properties on the main street and the cost be borne by the council and property owners carried it wag moved that the board adjourn to meet in september to quash bylaw ratepayers of the village of mark ham have taken legal action to quash a bylaw which has had its first and second reading for the ex penditure of 15000 for permanent improvements to the high school the question of expenditures on the high school was an issue at the municipal elections last january five candidates who had declared themselves against spending more than 5000 were elected and it is alleged that their pledge in this re spect secured their election in march the high school board ap plied for 45000 for additions al terations and permanent improve ments to the school council dis approved the application and in apnl the matter was put to a vote of the electors and was defeated by a vote of 153 to 90 in may the high school board was back with a request for 15000 for permanent improvements this time council was not so adamantine a motion to refer the matter to the electors was defeated 32 and a by law was given its first and second readings the ratepayers who complain say that the 35000 request is unreas onable and that 5000 would be sufficient they say that the coun cil is not acting in good faith and that it has been subject to undue influence they further allege that the bylaw is illegal as the require ments of the high school act and of the municipal act have not been complied with the match at newmarket between aurora and newmarket on friday july isth resulted in a victory for newmarket the score being 52 on saturday afternoon uxbridge juniors accompanied by a few fans motored to stouffville for the return game with our junior team ux bridge won by a score of 239 a in a york and simcoe league game at willowdale on fridayjuly 25th game as stouffville suc ceeded in making four runs in the first inningsbut they were prevented from playing further on account of the storm the twilight game of baseball on friday last between newmarket and stouffville got very exciting at one stage of the game with our boys leading right along but in the 3rd innings newmarket came to the front by scoring 7 runs before they were retired due to errors on the part of our team after this our boys scored 3 more runs during the remainder of the game and newmar ket one run making it 11s for stouffville girls softball uxbridge team of girls played the local team a friendly game of soft- ball last wednesday afternoon the result was in favor of the visitors the score being 299 a team of stouffville girls were in uxbridge yesterday playing
