never been discussed in these col umns and there is no inclination to commence the subject is becoming a very lively one and lately it has been necessary to empty the tri bune waste basket twice a week in stead of once so numerous have been the letters to the editor on some phase ot the church union con troversy the greatest offender is a writer in montreal who signs him self e scott and invariably tries such flattery as most of your read ers will not see it in any other paper the tone of these letters is not what one would expect from people who are supposed to be exemplifying the declaration blessed are the peacemakers for they shai be called the children of god our future is being heavily mort gaged in this province to meet the needs of the fanatical legislators who enact the school laws under pre sent conditions municipalities are be ing forced by the department of education to build new schools at an alarming pace in south ontario alone last year 475000 has been spent in one year for new schools and additions to old ones what is true of tliis small area is equally true in most other ridings in the province h a hutchison ips for south ontario in his report to the county council at whitby stated that now there werethree continua tion schools and three high schoofs irtness of wahins d steillizins isoltles the bottles an put into a lank of hot water heated by steam free trom any odor such as coal oil or any other fuel which may be used for heating the water a quantity ot spe cial soda is added to the water and after the bottles are thor oughly washed every buttle is then turned over ony a steam nozzle the live steam is then turned on into each bottle and no germ of any kind is left after cooling the bottles they are then ready to be filled the untiling of the milk on the delivery or the milk samples are drawn trom every can and tested as to the but ter fat it contains and the taste if same is satisfactory the milk is strained through a double cloth into the bottle filler the cases of empty bot tles are placed under the valves of the filler and filled without human hands touching same all this is done in a bright and airy room or toe creamery com mittee although county council sat all last week very little actual legisla tion was enacted it is likely the sitting will again be sprung into three weeks but there are many who contend that all the work could be done in ten days the warden is largely responsible for the despatch wilh which business is transacted and the warden who will put the proper speed into county council business should be awarded a medal for bravery he would bringdown certain condemnation from some members but at the same time ho would save the county of york many hundreds of dollars york county is not alone in this grievance for we know of other counties w the chief occupation of the county council on many days is to put in time it drags so hnvily that the card table and checker beard are brought in in york county the council is gett ing so large and unwieldy that when the letter heads for the year are printed with all the members names on they take up so much oom that there is scarcely any space left to write the letter on daughter mrs brown geo todd is paying 105 per bag for potatoes 20c per bushel for turnips mrs j reid in lindsay last week visiting her mother and daughter marion professor campbell
