9t012am jatstouffvilleontf them as to hov might function the inspector made it quite plain that the principal was supreme in the matter of organization manage- mentgand discipline in the school he believed howevej that the step taken by the trustees to engage a teacher was in the right direction he approved of the idea of placing another teacher on the staff and consented to the room in the base- ment being used as temporary quar ters only the matter then solved itself into what grade the new teacher should tie given the in spector said it was not absolutely necessary that the principal should teach the entrance class as he could sight one case where it was not done trustee stouffer held that the difference in salary offered for anew teacher was too great compared to six boadway salary and changing teachers in the classes might upset things he was willing that an extra teacher should be employed but was not satisfied to take the en trance war from mr boadway mr trench changing teachers is not good at any timer but in this case it wight more than compensate to get ridof the congestion in response to references from members of the board as to the showing made in the school last year mr boadway being present said he considered he only had eight en trance pupils last year he had t trance pupils last year he had been criticized for low grade per centage in passing which he held was due to allowing junior pupils to write further he said it makes no difference to me whether i teach third or fourth grade i have only the interest of the pupils at heart i have done my best and consider i have something to show for it although there is little thanks the 4th form now has 59 pupils and the entrance class is composed of ten mx truman holden member of the- board hete stated he considered the board was putting the principal down pretty bad if tins class was taken from him mr booth all the members voted to do this last meeting you should have been here mr holden mr aitchison thought the pupils came first and he had the highest respect for mr boadway but some thing must be done to relieve the congestion the chairman again wanted mr trench to assure the board they were right in engaging another teafcher so for the fourth time mr trench said the question pf engaging an extra teacher was good it was only a question of organization whether mr boadway or the new teacher should take the entrance class mr boadway i am willing to take the third class provided the inspector is agreed inspector i am willing but no matter who takes the fourth they should get better results when all their time is devoted to them mr rowbotham stated that in giv ing the extra teacher the fourth grade he could go right ahead unin terrupted while mr boadway as principal could devote more time to getting the other grades better organized mr booth and mr ait chison also held strongly to this view and each assured mr boadway they had nothing personal in the action taken but it was purely the interest of the pupils they had in view as midnight drew near the feel ing became more in unison and it was resolved to engage the extra teacher to take the fourth grade mr boadway to be supreme as prin cipal as hereofore h o klinck selected the board adjourned until mon day evening to consider applicants for the position all members were present excepting mr t holden fortyfive applications were received one from an exjournalist presby terian divine and finally a pedagogue of no mean ability judging by his testmonlals however the matter solved itself down to two applicants mr williams of markhara or mr klinck of stouffviile although the- board had previouiesly decided to engage only outside teachers mr klincks ability and previous wonder ful success impressed them bo
