5 and 17 inclusive among women over 21 years the name mary stands first there be ing 36 who claim it as their given name then follows elizabetltwith 20 annie and sarah with 16 each margaret 14 and alice13 among the males 31 answer td the name of william 25 to that of john 25 george 14 joseph and 18 robert this applies only to those over 21 years of age no other name reaches double figures industrious fellow and was favorably known throughout the community the funeral to stouff ville cemetery on wednesday after noon was under the direction of the local lodge of oddfellows of which he was a member rev g e coul ter pastor to the deceased also offi ciated whitchurch farmer passes following a severe cold develop ing pleurisy george green living north of stouffville on the 9th con cession succumbed to his illness early saturday morning april 2sth deceased had been a resident of chis locality for nine years he was born in the township of clark and was in his 69th year a man of quiet disposition he took no active part in public affairs and stayed close to the farm his wife died nine yaars ago this may and since that time his only unmarried daughter misi catherine has kept house there are six children who mourn fie pass ing of a beloved father beside the daughter at home they are wm j f green of pickering r j of sask atchewan john h of buffalo andrew of whitchurch mrs walter bain of lindsay the remains were conveyed to the former home of the deceased near lindsay on tuesday morning train for burial in the family plot there a service was held at thj home here monday evening conducted by rev w m mcguire of the miunonite church european corn borer on february 26th last an order in council was passed which quar antined certain territories in on tario on account of the european corn borer in the territory put under the ban there was included the townships of soarboro and york in this county and pickering town ship in ontario county the products affected by the township treasurer dead william g barnes for many years treasurer of pickering township died suddenly from a stroke on thursday morning april 26th at his home near green river he was in his 60th year and was one of the hest known men in pickering township and operated a farmbasket factory and saw and planing mill it is rather aycoincident that he should be called away so suddenly just four months after the sudden death of his wife he is survived by his two little daughters aged 11 and 14 yearswho were to be con firmed in the stouffville anglican church on the evening of their fathers death one brother and four sisters also survive namely thomas barnes of toronto mrs mcgregor and miss barnes of hunts- ville mrs w j stark of edmonton and mrs dr ira freel of stouff ville the funeral on saturday after noon elicited hundreds of sympath izers from all over the country who gathered to pay their last respects to a departed friend rev mr mc- lellan of claremont conducted the church service while a masonic ser vice was also held under direction of brougham union lodge many masons were in attendance from richardson lodge stouffville in terment took place at brunswick hill cemetery pickering in his 89th year following an illness of some dura tion one of the oldest native sons of this section of ontario passed away at altona on friday april 27th1923 in the person of thomas a lewis at the advanced age of 89 years mr lewis was a native of york county being born in the locality of unionville but at the age of ten years he moved with his parents to the second concession of uxbridge where he spent his early boyhood days after his marriage he lived for a time in york county but per manently settled in uxbridge fifty years ago he followed farming all his years his first farm was at the gravel hill north of stouffville deceased was twice married his first wife being elizabeth levit of uxbridge township and to them were born six children his second marriage was to elizabeth howard who survives him and to this union were born four children one having passed away there are living to honor the memory of a kind father who had been honored with long life and years of usefulness besides his wife these nine children mrs pearson stouffville mrs mcconnocbie tor onto thos h lewis altona am brose lewis markham wm lewis toronto mrs j baum michigan and edward of uxbridge jonas of stouffville and arthur at home the funeral on monday to stouff ville cemetery was largely attended by old friends and neighbors in this locality 77 years on wednesday april 25th death summoned fannie raymer relipt of the latejohn strong at the home of her brother a h raynftr lemon- ville this good old christian mother was 77 years of age and had been a lifelong resident of the locality where she passed away she was twflce married her first husband death of peter rayinor when the great call came to peter being the late john heisey and to raymer on friday april 27th1923 to go up yonder a man of the strictest integrity and a lifelong tiller of the soil finished his earthly career while at one time mr ray mer was connected with the evinge- lical church for many years now be has been a supporter of the mennonite body and had served as a sunday school superintendent born in the township of markham on lot 3 concession 7 seventyseven years ago he was a sou of vhe late martin raymer whom oldtimers will remember 54 years ago peter raymer was married to elizabeth robson of the same township they set up farming there but latr moved to nittawasga simcoe county where they lived for 30 years fourteen years ago the cou ple retired to stouffville and lived in the east end of the town mr raymer suffered a strokeand had been cared for at the home of his daughter mrs rennie from whence the funeral took place on monday to stouffville cemetery besides his life partner there is left five of a family of six to survive and revere the memory of a faithful fathgr they are arthur of bossovainman ambrose of mento man mrs wm rennie mrs chas brillingermark- ham township and mrsfred mantle of uxbridge township the deceased daughter was mrs rawn three sisters also survive mrs colin ree- sor cedar grove mrs shank mark ham and mrs stonehouse of west ern ontario the funeral service on monday in the mennonite church stouffville was conducted by rev w m mcguire and was attended by many old friends and sympathizers this union two daughters survive mrs isaac burkholder of alberta and mr sam strong of salem a son wesley died only a few months ago her second marriage was to the late mrstrong but to this union no children were born since girl hood the deceased mother had fol lowed the christian life and was a faithful member of dixon hill men nonite church following the demise of her second husband mrs strong made her home with her brother a h raymer who survives her along with three other brothers jacob h raymer of newmarket christian raymer of stouffville and petefr h raymer on the old home stead on the 8th concession mark ham just south of ringwoodwhere the departed one had spent the early years of her life before marri age and it was here she was born interment took place at dixon hill cemetery on friday last the service being conducted by rev w yates of markham assisted by mr isaac pike sudden ending of hiram yake death claims young man benj burkitt the local express and cartage agent passed away at his home in stouffville on sunday morn ing at the untimely age of 41 years ben was troubled with an abdominal disease which had more or less affected him since childhood but notwithstanding the fact that he had been laid off work for some time his death was none the less a shock to the whole community he was born in newmarket but had a very sudden death occured at 130 pm on wednesday noon at his home in the east end when hiram son at mr calvin yake expired some what suddenly the deceased was on the street on tues day although not feeling very well when through the night he took a turn for the worse and passed away on wednesday he leaves a wife and daughter father and mother three brother and three sisters to morn his loss he was in his fiftyfirs year thos thompson of the standard bank head office staff was in town sunday harold gray was home on sunday from oshawa he has been trans ferred from the bank then to king ston where he took up his new duties this week mrs m g bruce is spending a few days with friends in toronto calvin yake has returned after being absent from town all winter w j mckuen and wife toronto spent sunday at j l littles mrs cliff of toronto is spending the week with mrs kester main st east mr and mrs findlay of the east erd have returned after spending the winter in florida alta burkitt of oakville was home this week owing to the death of his brother benjamin w h urpuhart chemist of owen sound made a brief callat the old home over wednesday night miss ruth raymer of toronto was home this week visiting her parents mr and mrs christian raymer wes boadway has gone to tor onto where he has entered the em ploy of the lyman bros wholesale druggists wm pearson of oakville was in town over the week end attending the funeral of his grandfather the late thos a lewis of altona who was buried on monday this week miss m fleming of scarboroalso mr and mrs j robertson mr and mrs a ingian and the misses myrtle ingian and audry armerod of to ronto as well as markham friends were visitors with mr and mrs ia parkinson east end w p badgero of vermillion alta is home this week owing to the seri ous illness of his father mr ira badgero who on tuesday showed signs of improvement following a stroke last week w p badgero married an uxbridge girl and for some years has conducted a store business at vermillionwhere he has met with good success lennox decides to stick in north york contest t herbert lennox kc will seek reelection in north york on sat urday it is said he told the conser vative executive that ne had de cided to remain in the riding- and would not seek to enter the legisla ture through one of the toronto seats it now looks like a straight and the present member though
