whitchurch nominations iuduced by the sue weather and not deterred by the rough roads a larjje number ofcleitors gathered in mc quillans hall in the rising village of ballantrae on monday last to select their muuieipal council for 1889 the condidates were there allot them in tact it appeared that nearly all present were seeking an office for themselves or for some friend after an early dinner and a great deal of hand shaking and caucusing promptly at noon clerk lumly called for nominations and names were men tioned and noted down at varying in tervals until the statutory hour was up then the clerk pleaded illness and mr j no jamieson was appointed chairman for the after meeting ths various nominators and seconders were called on in rotation followed each by their respective nominees messrs c stonfter and m roach pro posed maxson jones for ueeve and urged his claims as an old public ser vant and a veil qualified man with no axe to grind mr jones on be ing elevated to the bench began in his usual humorous manner to thank his nominators for the honor and then rapidly sketched his former career in the council he showed how he had assisted in opening roads over the township
