Armed with a paint chip from the groom's home where the couple now live. -"I went to the~States for a shopping During her time as a missionary in Haiti, Jeni had made some wonderful friends, and Pat wanted them to be included on the quilt. I took one of the girls aside, told her about the project, and gave her about a dozen squares of fabn'c to take with her," said Pat. While they were there. the young woman man- aged to get some wonder- ful contributions to the quilt without giving the game away to leni. “We It was a ï¬rst for Pat, who had no experience of the intricacies of quilt making. "It's so precise. It's like putting the pieces of a puule together." In March this year. she sent out squares of fabric to the couple's family and close friends, asking them to decorate each one with their own special message and return the fabric by the end of May. trip with one of my girl- friends and we chose the colours at a fabric store. I visited another friend, who originally gave me the pat- tern, in November and we started cutting the pieces for the quilt." "So many people knew about it, I couldn't believe that we were able to keep it a secret," said Pat. The ï¬nished master- piece contains 52 hearts, with another l4 hearts divided between two matching pillow shams. Another friend, who lives in Pennsylvania. said that if Pat would send the quilt by courier, she would do the hand-stitching around the hearts and bands of fabric. Within three weeks,.the quilt was ready to be picked up and brought home. Pat, along with Steve's mother and grandmother, added some stitches of their own to complete the couple's unique gift. also have one square from France, supplied by leni's French teacher, one from England, one from B.C. and one from Wfax,‘ said Pat.
