One simple way is to conduct a match featuring two local teams and allow the public to get a firsthand view of it. That's what two teams representing the Stouffville Cricket Club who regularly play in a league in Markham intend to do when they take to a cricket ground pitch at 6323 Bethesda Rd., for a friendly Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m. Robert Ramjohn, a club spokesman, said the purpose of the match is to try and showcase the game--especially to new residents of Stouffville who might have had exposure to the game where they previously resided but do not know of the club. For those who reside in Stouffville but do not know the game is being played and would like to know more about it, now is a chance to watch it first hand. The more the merrier. And with that being the case, the club is hoping the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville might see there's enough of a participatory demand that would pave the way for the creation of a regulation pitch for them. "Cricket is really new to Stouffville and we want to get it out there so more people can read about cricket and understand it better and come out and see how fun the game is," Ramjohn said. "Right now we don't have a lot of members and many of those that play and live in Stouffville play in a league in Markham because they have better grounds. "We are currently making do with what we have here in Stouffville until we can get a better pitch." While the club has built a foundation, Ramjohn said they have made some headway thanks to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, who have given the club a parcel of land to where they could have two pitches. What's needed though, is for the club to receive some support from the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville to construct the pitches. "We're hoping. The demographics are changing where people from Markham are moving to Stouffville. People who now live in Stouffville go to Markham because they have better cricket facilities.
