Dad wants late daughter's name up at rink By Ali Raza uReport Stouffville, when you see news happening let us know... newsroom@yrmg.com www.facebook/yrmgnews 9 | Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, July 28, 2016 aliraza@yrmg.com Stouffville resident Anand Daté's distinctive request has forced council to seek a formal process in memorial naming rights. At the July council meeting, Daté asked councillors for the approval for renaming Multi-Purpose Room 1 in the Stouffville Clippers Sports Complex to Lexi Daté's Room, in honour of his late daughter. "My goal is like any parent to have my daughter's name survive long past mine," Daté told council. Lexi, born Christmas Day 2010, passed away on Nov. 13, 2013, because of a rare and unidentified heart issue. Daté and his daughter would regularly frequent the twin-pad arena complex and became friends with the staff, who Daté continues to visit. He has also agreed to personally cover all costs of the naming. A temporary shrine in Lexi's memory was erected in the lobby of the Weldon Road complex. Staff presented council with two options: to approve the naming of the room or defer the approval and direct town staff to prepare a facilities naming rights policy. Council chose the second option out of intent to treat all similar requests of memorial naming from town residents as equal. "I think we need to be able to offer these opportunities on an equitable basis," said Councillor Ken Ferdinands. "And there's some sort of protocol that needs to be available." Message Anand Daté included in temporary tribute to his daughter that was posted in the lobby of the Stouffville Clippers Sports Complex: "I promised Lexi to live the rest of my life doing the things that would make her as proud of me, as I have always been of her. You all have families and children of your own. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of you happily teaching and playing with your precious little ones in this facility, and throughout the town. I encourage you to continue to do the things that will make your family proud. And remember, especially during the trying times, that all little angels like my Lexi are getting happiness from your efforts." @yorkregion Lexi Daté: Little Stouffville girl's photograph was taken two days before she died in 2013. uReport Stouffville Christian Fellowship A Church in a Beautiful Countryside Pastor Walter Robbins Stouffville Churches Welcome You Anglican Church of Canada 254 Sunset Blvd., 905-640-1461 www.stouffvilleanglican.ca Sunday, July 31st 8:00 am & 10:00 am Eucharist Nursery & Church School at 10:00 am monday, August 1st Civic Holiday church office closed Save the Date: Saturday, September 10th 18th Annual Golf Tournament at Spring Creek Golf Club Christ Church To ST.
