Health Minister Eric Hoskins announced $3.6 million in funding for the Southlake Regional Health Centre's Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, money that will help cover the cost of the $4.2 million radiation unit that opened in February. It became the fourth treatment unit for the hospital and more than 400 additional cancer patients will be able to utilize the technology each year. "They can be more accurate, do it faster and more safely," he said. "They can make it as comfortable as possible. It's really fantastic. This is the fourth such machine and we might not be finished yet. We have no doubt that, as the population continues to grow, we need to make sure we're able to provide this high quality service as close to home as possible. This is an important investment."
