28 Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, May 26, 2016 | Sleepy golfer victorious at Ontario senior event Kathy Pilkey shot a four-over 74 to capture the Golf Ontario's Senior Women's Champion of Champions, presented by Turkish Airlines, event at the Beverly Golf and Country Club in Hamilton Thursday. Competing in a field comprised of 40 club champions from across the province, the 60-year-old member of Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Stouffville won the title by two shots over Jane Hedges-McKinnon from Strathroy. Reflecting on her win, the Claremont resident attributed it to taking a lesson two days prior to the event. "It feels fantastic to win this title, I am so thrilled," she said. "The strength of my game today was definitely my ball striking. I had a lesson on Tuesday and all of a sudden, things started to feel great. I didn't make one birdie, but I played rock-solid golf and it felt good." Hathaway bumped from lead Jason Hathaway steered the Stouffville-based T3R/EHR Raybestos/Fast Eddie/HGC/DSI Chevrolet to a ninth place finish in the seasonopening NASCAR Pinty's Series race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park near Bowmanville Sunday. Starting the 51-lap race in the sixth starting spot on the 10-turn, 2.459-mile road course, Hathaway moved up into fourth place entering the second turn and then was in third by the 17th lap. By lap 19, he took over the top running position in the 27-car field. But with three laps to go, Hathaway got an aggressive challenge from second place and was pushed off course, having to relegate his lead. Hathaway recovered without any major damage to the car and took the checkered flag in ninth place. The next race on the 2016 schedule will take the T3R/EHR team to Autodrome Chaudière for the Chaudière 300 on June 11. Hathaway is the two-time defending winner of that race. Racer Tan taking exam break Whitchurch-Stouffville's Samantha Tan drove to a pair of sixth-place finishes during the third and fourth rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park near Bowmanville Saturday. "Unfortunately, I will be missing the next two rounds at Lime Rock as I have mid-terms," said Tan, who is studying economics at the University of California-Irvine. Tan's team will have plenty of time to make sure her car is ready for the following race weekend that will be rounds seven and eight at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc. June 23 to 26.
