10 Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, May 19, 2016 | Pickleball players' breakfast serves up help for Fort McMurray The Stouffville Pickleball Players are reaching out to lend a helping hand for the residents of Fort McMurray, Alta. who were displaced due to the recent forest fires by hosting a pancake breakfast at the Pickleball courts in Vandorf May 24 starting at 9:30 a.m. A minimum $5 donation will be requested from those wishing to participate. All funds raised will be donated to the Red Cross. Dennis Carter, a Stouffville Pickleball Players spokesman, cited even prior to their scheduled breakfast they have received a positive response as they've raised close to $400 already from local businesses. In addition to holding the breakfast as a means of raising funds, Carter said they have received gift card donations from local businesses to be utilized as draw prizes. Those donating a minimum of $10 will receive one free draw ticket. The draws will be held at the Stouffville Pickleball Players social June 4 at noon. "We feel that we have so much compared to the people of Fort McMurray and we cannot fathom what they and their families must be going through at this time. The celebration will take place at the Ballantrae Community Centre on 5592 Aurora Long weekend fireworks in Ballantrae Rd. It runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with fireworks set to begin at 9 p.m. It's presented by the Stouffville Academy of Music & Dance. Food, ice cream, balloon twisting and more will be offered to residents. Admission to the event is free. The event is organized by the town's events staff.
