40 Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, September 10, 2015 | Stouffville squad captures 2nd straight fastball crown Make it two in a row for the Stouffville Mennos. A pair of Richmond Hill Men's Fastball League championships to be precise. The Mennos captured their second straight league title after they defeated the Richmond Hill Ale Crew 4-3 to capture the bestof-five final series three games to one at Richmond Hill Town Park last week. Greg Dalgarno threw the first five innings and fanned nine batters, while giving up four hits and three walks Tuesday. Jay Nesbitt piched the final two innings to earn the win, striking out four and giving up two hits and three bases on balls. While elated to win a second straight league championship and to reach the league final in each of their three years in the league, Mennos head coach Wayne Dalgarno acknowledged this year's title presented a far greater challenge. Part of the proof was evident during the regular season, which saw the Mennos finish in second place with an 11-5-2 record, one point behind the Richmond Hill Ale Crew. "Although there were fewer teams in the league, the calibre of play was significantly higher," he said. "Opposing pitchers were much higher quality than last year and many of the regular season and playoff games were low scoring." In assessing their victory, Dalgarno attributed it to a combination of solid defence and timely hitting. "We played solid defence and got timely hitting from everywhere in the lineup. We did not have any one overpowering hitter, but got key hits when we needed them." Michael Hayakawa Stouffville Churches Welcome You 905-887-5651 Sunday, September 13th KICK-OFF SUNDAY Now Offering Two Services: 9:15am & 11:00am Speaker: Ed Fontaine www.springvale.org Stouffville Rd. at Kennedy Rd.
