One more hall calls Veltman During his storied career, Jim Veltman earned induction into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame in 2009 and Brampton Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. This year, the 49-year-old Stouffville resident will join the Canadian Lacrosse League Hall of Fame. Veltman is among 10 individuals along with one team to be inducted in Nov. 14. "I really had no idea I would be inducted," Veltman said. "I don't even know how people get inducted if someone nominates them or if there's a committee that does it. "I know some of the people who are currently in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame and to be a part of that group, it's a great honour. "But you do feel kind of old," he added with a laugh. A teacher at Agincourt Collegiate in Scarborough for the past 17 years, Veltman honed his skills with the Brampton Excelsiors organization at the minor, junior and senior levels and was a perennial top scorer in the Ontario Jr. A league. He was the recipient of the Dennis MacIntosh Memorial Trophy for ability and sportsmanship and garnered MVP honours. After success in senior ranks, Veltman played 16 seasons in the National Lacrosse League, from 1992 to 2008 with Buffalo, Ontario and Toronto, winning five titles. In 14 of his seasons, he led the league in loose balls, reaching the 2,000 career loose ball milestone. He captained the 2003 Team Canada team that won the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. Since retiring, Veltman was involved in the CLAX winter league as commissioner and recently joined former Rock teammate Glenn Clark as a coach with the 25 New England Black Wolves of the NLL, where he will be an assistant. "Canada is where I learned my trade and I've played for Canada in international competition and I've won four Mann Cups, which is the highest Canadian title you can win at the adult level. I've played out west and I've visited the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. This feels great," he said.
