A slow-cooked, southern style barbecue takes over Memorial Park Aug. 7 to 9 for the third annual Stouffville Country Ribfest. About 22,000 descended upon the park over three days last year, which is more than double the number of attendees in 2013, according to Joan Crosbie, manager of culture and community services for the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Three of the four ribbers are returning ­ Texas Rangers, Sticky Fingers and Bone Daddy's. New to the lineup is Uncle Sam's. "We figure until the event grows much, much larger, we'll stick with the four (ribbers)," Crosbie said. A number of non-rib offerings have been tweaked in order to help reduce the redundancy of french fry and poutine vendors, according to Crosbie. This year, there will be fries, along with donuts, bloomin' onions, beaver tails and one vendor will be serving up alligator. "We're billing our ribfest as a family- friendly event, so we want to provide a wide variety," Crosbie said. The craft brewers are back -- Mill Street Brewery, Stouffville Brewing Company and King Brewery. Joining them this year is Old Flame Brewing Company. "We want good brewers on board. We want good in general, but I feel it's important to highlight the local brewers," Crosbie said. Based on feedback from last year, organizers are offering an alternative to beer -- wine, from Gallucci Winery. The children's area will be expanded and include a spring-free trampoline. There will once again be hot air balloon rides on the Saturday night. Rockers Accoustica will provide music on Friday night. Saturday night's entertainment will have a country/pop vibe with The Little White Lies and local bands will take to the stage Sunday afternoon. Admission into Ribfest is free. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 8 and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 9.
