If you were out running Saturday morning along Main Street you would have noticed around 900 cars parked on NovaPharm’s lawn. And while I'm glad you were out getting your morning exercise, I’m going to digress from fitness just this once. Free Press Muscle cars, street rods and antique automobiles are part of summer in Southern Ontario, and on any given weekend you can drive your beloved car to an event where you will meet up with like- minded auto enthusiasts. Motorfest, one of the biggest car shows in Ontario, is an example. And every car has . nan ai stoi'y, including 'the 1929 Chevrolet sedan with coke trailer owned by John White of Stouffville. John and his wife Diane bought their car in 1996. Owning an antique street rod was not even in their plans until a friend asked them to drive his 1934 Ford Coupe to a show in Columbus Ohio. They Were ' hooked and spent months looking for their own street rod, which is the body of an antique car on a new drive train. The car features a V8 automatic transmission, power steering, boxed frame, AM/FM stereo and air conditioning, and the couple restored the interior to complement the bright colours and design of the exterior. They now attend shows throughout Southern Ontario and as far away as Oklahoma and Prince Edward Island. 'Motorfest is one of my favourite shows and it’s mainly because I can help young men and women while enjoying the day,†said John ,L _._. gives car enthusiasts a way to take a hobby they love and help others at the same time. EastRidge Church spon- sors the show, which is put on entirely by volun- teers. NovaPharm donates the use of their property and the town provides pic- nic tables and washrooms. John White’s appreciation of Motorfest and being able to give back through a hobby he enjoys was echoed many times throughout the day as I spoke to car owners. Finally, 1 have caught the old car bug myself. I know you’ll find this hard to believe if you know my hus- band, but it’s not a Corvette I'm dreaming of. www.llfesruff.ca 905-201-5050 Markham Readers’ Choice Award Winner 3': Puppy and Obedience Classes ‘4: Agility $Tricks :: Rally-0 3‘: Pet First Aid Courses As a teenager I had a 1972 blue MCB that had chrome bumpers and a top you took off manually and put in the trunk. And yes, even back then it was in need of restoration work. 1 don't remember anything about the motor or the engine, but I do remember the fun my friends and I had driving in Hard Winning my car. As I admired a restored 1970 MCB roadster and chat- ted with owner Eric Meikle of Oshawa, I began won- dered if perhaps we could find a 1972 MCB in need of restoration. I just have to convince my husband that a European car can share a garage with a Corvette. This month’s column may not be about fitness but any hobby that gets us out enjoy- ing life, community and giv- ing to others is a winner in my eyes. 09 Training VIVL‘u-I vv--â€"â€"-_ “We are proud to have been a part of the Stouffville community for more than 25 years.†Owner/pharmacist Rob Croxall and his knowledgeable, professional staff pride themselves on the personal service they offer each and every customer.Throughout the store you will find excellent products that offer value for your dollar.
