Unfortunately for the 31-year- old Stouffville resident, it wasn't meant to be. Having procured a medal in each of her first three Olympic appearances -- two silver and one bronze -- Cockburn was denied fulfilment of her dream after finishing fourth. But it wasn't by much -- a mere .09 of a point that denied her from making a fourth trip to the medal podium. At the same time, it did not come without a bit of controversy when He Wenna of China fell on the landing of her final routine, but recorded a score of 55.950 to claim the bronze. Executing a flawless routine, Cockburn was given a score of 55.860 by the judges. "I was very disappointed," Cockburn conceded prior to returning to Stouffville Monday. "I was defi- nitely happy with my routine and I did a great performance so when my score showed up, I was surprised at how low it was." She said her scores from the judges were spread out dramatically. Because of that, Cockburn speculated the judges instituted a reserve score, which made her See COCKBURN, page 11. An investigation into the alleged acceptance of inappropriate donations by MP Paul Calandra will not take place, the federal ethics commissioner's office said this week. "I welcome her clarifying we, of course, followed all the rules," the Oak Ridges-Markham MP said in an interview with The Sun-Tribune. "I do appreciate that we do have an ethics commissioner to review. ... She's confirmed that we followed all the rules and I'm happy about that," he said. Last month, Mr. Calandra was accused in a national publication of accepting money at fundraising parties in Markham and Richmond Hill earlier this year that involved people attempting to secure a new Toronto radio station licence.
