Discovering which not-for-profit service groups and organizations serve the community is the purpose behind Inside WhitchurchStouffville, which has taken place since 2006. This year's event is Aug. 23, 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Civic Square. If it rains, the event will be in the Silver Jubilee Club, Main and Market streets. "A lot of people are looking for things they can put their children into, they can volunteer their time with and this is a one-stop shop for them," said Michele Kennedy, the municipality's clerk. Among the organizations taking part in the event are the Whitchurch-Stouffville Chamber of Commerce, Stouffville Terry Fox Run, Five with DRIVE, Music Mania Christmas Show, Girl Guides, Stouffville Igoma Partnership, Toastmasters, Tot Spot and the Stouffville Multicultural Association. "(These are organizations) you may not be aware of that you can get involved with," Ms Kennedy said. "It's a great way to learn about our municipality, what makes us unique," she said. Since 2007, Inside Whitchurch-Stouffville has been held in conjunction with Moonlight Madness -- the biggest sidewalk sale of the year. "Each year it gets more vendors, more mer- chants involved," said Anna Rose, downtown co-ordinator for the Town of WhitchurchStouffville. The sidewalk sale runs from 7 to 10 p.m. "The majority of merchants do look for opportunities to utilize their suppliers to give their customers a bargain," Ms Rose said. One retailer becoming very well known for selling Christmas items in August is the IDA. "People are already starting to think in that mode," Ms Rose said. `A lot of people are looking for things they can put their children into, they can volunteer their time with and this is a one-stop shop for them.' Along with sales, there will be face painting, street performers and a DJ in the Care and Share parking lot, where additional vendors are expected to be set up. Free horse and wagon rides along Main Street return for a second year. "That was really, really well received," Ms Rose said. "It just provided for a really nice atmosphere." The Downtown Stouffville Farmers' Market will remain open until 8 p.m. "They don't stay right to the end because it's too dark for them to pack it up," she said.
