Christine Blizzard, the 2011 Markham Fair Ambassador, will be competing in the 41st annual Ambassador of the Fairs Competition at the CNE. More than 70 winners from fairs across Ontario, men and women aged 18 to 25, will showcase their knowledge of Ontario agriculture, and be judged on poise, self-confidence and public speaking. The winning competitor will participate in a series of official duties during Canada's largest fair, which runs from Aug. 17 to Sept. 3. "A long-standing tradition, this is one of our most established events at the CNE," said CNE general manager David Bednar in a media release. "It's a great way to bring together individuals and communities from across the province over the course of three days." The final round of the competition will be held Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on the exhibition grounds. Lemonville singer A.J. de Boer, 17, will compete in the 26th annual Rising Star talent competition at the CNE Aug. 17 to Sept. 2. bursary winner The event is open to amateur performers ages six to 21 from across Ontario, including comedians, dancers, singers and ventriloquists. A panel of judges determines who qualifies to compete at the CNE by reviewing DVD and YouTube submissions submitted by last May. The top three finalists will be awarded cash prizes, while the first-place winner will represent the CNE at the Canadian Youth Talent Competition in Winnipeg this fall. A.J, a former York Region Media Group Celebration of the Arts bursary winner, has also received the annual Whitchurch-Stouffville Student Music Scholarship Concert award.
