Mennos hammer Oshawa, head for Meaford The Stouffville Mennos have been accustomed to being on the receiving end of mercy-shortened Oshawa City and District Fastball League contests this season. But when they took to the road for a game against the Oshawa Rebels Tuesday, the Mennos were the ones who administered a beat down, mercying the Rebels 9-2 in five innings. The Mennos' bats erupted with 12 hits off losing pitcher Brian Mather. Trailing 1-0 after one inning, the Mennos' offence went to work when Jeff Boadway tripled and paved the way for a three-run outburst to give them a 3-1 lead through two innings. After the Rebels scored a run in the third inning to trail by a run, the Mennos, buoyed by a two-run homer by Jay Nesbitt, erupted with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 advantage. The Mennos added two more runs in the fifth to round out the scoring and end the contest. Travis Connor worked the first three innings to earn the win while Greg Dalgarno tossed the final two frames. Mennos' centre fielder Shawn Boadway had three hits while Nesbitt, leadoff hitter Rich Burkholder and short stop Jeff Boadway each had two. BRIEFS Now 6-10 on the season, the Mennos resume league action Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Park against Lake Simcoe. Starting the race in the ninth position on the .333-mile oval, Hathaway got off to a good start and appeared to be in good position as he held the lead from lap 161 to 194 before incurring his misfortune that began with a restart on lap 195 when he felt something break in the rear end of his car. Hathaway was relegated to the pits to the attention of his crew where they diagnosed a broken suspension part. "We had a wicked car tonight and I was comfortable with the car out front leading," Hathaway said. "A finish like this is hard for our team. We found something in the last three races and to have the western swing end like this is heartbreaking. "I am so proud of my guys, though. They give me all they have each weekend. We have shown just how strong our team is this season and that we are in the hunt up front. We will be back up front again," he vowed.
