A number of past and present military vehicles will make their way along Main Street, along with about 100 soldiers and roughly 15 calvary on horse en route to the ceremony in Civic Square. "It's going to be pretty cool," said Oak Ridges-Markham MP Paul Calandra, who spearheaded this event. "They'll see some good pageantry. A lot of fun. ... Get up close with the soldiers and the horses." "It's going to be a once-ina-lifetime thing. I don't think Stouffville has had a military parade of this magnitude before," said Owen Macri, special assistant to Mr. Calandra. The event is being held in conjunction with The War of 1812's 200th anniversary. Freedom of the Town ties back See SPECTATORS, page 12. Trevor to Pittsburgh next week, two years after Leafs picked his brother Carrick's stock on rise for NHL draft By Michael Hayakawa mhayakawa@yrmg.com During his National Hockey League draft year, Trevor Carrick showed the pro scouts what he could do on the ice as a member of the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors this past Ontario Hockey League season and the prior sea- son with the Stouffville Spirit of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. With the NHL entry draft to be held in Pittsburgh June 22 and 23, the NHL clubs wanted to learn a bit more about the 17-year-old Stouffville native before they made their selections. The six-foot, two-inch, 175- pound defenceman felt he gave those decision makers all they wanted to know about him during the recent four-day NHL pre-draft combine in Toronto. The youngest of three brothers who have played in the OHL (Sam, captain of the Brampton Battalion last season and Jake, a former member of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Windsor Spitfires), Carrick was the first in his family to earn such an invitation to the combine. He earned the invite -- after NHL Central Scouting jump-started him to No. 44 in its final ranking See CARRICK, page 19. share that opinion, stouffville. e-mail letters to the editor to Jmason@yrmg.com GOING GREEN AT 410 AUTO Volkswagen · Audi Hybrid · Porsche European & Asian 138 Sandiford Dr., Unit 5 · 905-642-2886 www.410auto.ca THE NATIONAL STORE Jon St St Denis, Agent Jon Denis, Agent 5402 Main Street 375402 Sandiford Dr., #204 Main Street Stouffville, ON L4A 1H3 Stouffville, L4A 7X5 Stouffville, ON 1H3 Bus: 905-642-5400 Bus: 905-642-5400 jon.stdenis.pien@statefarm.com n.stdenis.pien@statefarm.com The Diamond Experts 5758 Main Street Stouffville (905) 640-4646 www.barthau.com (LCBO & Shoppers Plaza)
