The decision was made earlier this year because it no longer works with the park's main business, which is the trailer park, according to Morgan Jenkins, manager and one of the owners of Cedar Beach Trailer and RV Resort. "It's unfortunate because it's such a historical venue for our community," said Councillor Phil Bannon, whose ward includes Musselman's Lake and Cedar Beach. "It's just a terrible loss for me, for the community." "It's private property. It's a private beach. It's a private enterprise. They can operate how they want," Mr. Bannon said. A couple of years ago, Mr. Jenkins said they banned alcohol from the beach in hopes of attracting more families. "We seem to get more and more young kids, which wasn't what we were looking for in a family park," he said, adding visitors would also leave a mess behind. The beach attracted about 5,000 people annually, according to Mr. Jenkins. Despite having a notice of the beach's closure on their website, Mr. Jenkins said they had to turn away at least 200 people who came over the May long weekend. "We've been here for so long, they assume we're open," he said. Those who came to the beach were directed to Bruce's Mill Conservation Area on Stouffville Road or Lake Simcoe. `It's unfortunate because it's such a historical venue for our community.' "(During) the May long weekend, having the park closed was a much nicer feel for our residents," Mr. Jenkins said. "They really want a safe and secure park and having it open to day guests doesn't really mesh with that so well. You don't know who's in your park and having it as a gated community you just know, you know your neighbours, you know who's around." The trailer park has 560 units. Mr. Jenkins also noted because of where the beach entrance is located on Ninth Line, it caused traffic tie-ups and complaints from residents. "That was part of our decision as well. ... Nobody benefits from having neighbours that (are) ticked off at you for having the roads clogged up," Mr. Jenkins said.
