Dave Lawlor has always played the §upporting _role. B_ut now, he will step out from the shadows and into the spotlight to raise money for Parkinson’s disease. A group of local women came together and formed the Service- men’s VVwes and Mothers Club, which held card parties, bazaars and bingos to help raise funds for SALUTED IN STOUFFVILLE REMEMBRANCE DAY 2010 As a result of the Comfort Fund, the legion created the ladies auxil- iary in February 1953. It has been about 70 years since those first card parties and bazaars were held, but the legion ladies remain just as supportive of the veterans as they did back then. “Over the years, it has been the ladies auxiliary that has kept (the legion) going in many of the com- munities," said Marjorie Smith, for- mer president and life member of the auxiliary. Mm Smith along with Aldene Sinclair, Aurelia Smith and Elsie Saunders are the only remaining auxiliary charter members.
