His award-winning honest, thoughtful and often satiric columns garnered Dave the respect of his many readers and fellow edi- tors and reporters. He was renowned for his compassion, intelligence, wit and, most of all, for his love of writing and aptly chosen profession. Dave died Sept. 22, 2008 at the age of 46 after a seven-month battle with cancer. That month, the Richmond Hill native would have celebrated his 25th anniversary with YRMG, where he began his career as a reporter at The Liberal after graduating from Ryerson Uni- versity and ended it as Markham Economist Sun editor.
