" Council endorsed guidelines that will become a ' basis for the allocation of sanitary sewer and water service.Theguidelinesallowforarange ofopportunities to enhance the overall "sustainability" of new development going forward â€" both within the development area in Stouffville and for major site development elsewhere in the community. Having reviewed the results of Staff’s assessment of acceptable road specifications for reconstruction of roads within a heritage district, Council approved the road design of a maximum asphalt pavement width of 6.4 metres with .44 metre wide concrete mountable curbs for the reconstruction of the local streets in the Community of Stouffville Heritage Area. Although some of the streets could accommodate wider pavements, it was agreed that the approved road design would result in a consistent street design maintaining the heritage nature of the area. Council also approved that as part of the reconstruction, trees will be planted in the boulevards where The Public Works Department reminds residents that it conducts a major watermain flushing program of the Town’s water distribution systems twice annually. The next event is scheduled to begin on or about Monday May 10th, 2010 in the communities of Ballantrae/Musselman Lake and Stouffville and is expected to last for approximately three (3) weeks. The work is to be conducted daily, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:30 pm. The process involves the flowing of fire hydrants for several minutes. The program will remove accumulated sediment from the systems. Some temporary discolouration may occur. The presence of this sediment does not pose a health hazard. Should anyone experience any discolouration of water, please let the water run until it clears. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, The program also allows Public Works crews the opportunity to check the operation of hydrants to ensure that they are in proper working order.
