Susanne Hilton, who represents the ward that includes northwestern Stoufiville, has not announced if she will seek re-election. Election day is Oct. 25. “I want to get to know people and know what their concerns are because what I'm concerned about may not be what they’re concerned about," she said. “I'm there to work for them and not the other way around." Ms Adams, who lives in Ward 5 with her sister Irena, does, however, have some issues she wants to bring to council chambers, if elected. The first is raining in local development. “I think it's an excessive amount of devel- opment in such a short amount of time," Ms Adams said. Ms Adams is the latest resident to enter the municipal election race. Anne Pride is also running for councillor of Ward 4. She also wants to bring more employment to Whitchurch-Stouffville, ensure the town is being fiscally responsible and provide activi- ties for the younger residents. “Youth sire 0dr future and we have to find things that will interest them,” Ms Adams said. “I want to keep youth here.” “I want the new residents to be welcomed by those who have been here a while," she said. “There is strength in numbers and the community takes care of each other and that is how we can go forth." Ms Adams _is no stranger to the behindâ€" the-scenes work of mnning an election camâ€" palgn. Ms Adams aldeants to bring that old- time community feeling back to Stouffville. She was on PaulCalandra's volunteer team when he won his bid for MP of Oak Ridges- Markham in 2008 and she assisted in Council- lor Phil Bannon's unsuccessful run in the 2007 provincial election. Ms Adams closed the business about 10 years ago and she now works in public relations for a Markham-based consulting firm. “I've been politically active federally and provincially. I really want to help the people in Stouffville. sol thought municipally would be the best way to do it," she said. Ms Adams is a volunteer with the Straw- berry Festival and a Kinsmen Club member. She has also fundraised for the Hospital for Sick Children and worked with Toronto's Out of the Cold organization. Her full-time job, according to Ms Adams. will not interfere with her councillor duties. “1 have a passion for our community," Ms Adams said. “I know I can help bring the com - munity together."
