Stoufl‘ville’s Team Victorious, spearheaded by breast cancer survivor Vicky Yakabuski, received the friends and family team challenge award for raising $13,944 at the inaugural York Region Run for the Cure. Since 2000, the CBCF has directed almost $60 million to the cause in Ontario. October is Breast Cancer Aware~ ness month. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1986 to focus on funding breast cancer research, education and awareness initiatives. Nationally, $26.5 million was raised and 170,000 people partici- pated this year. The York Region run was just one of 56 Run for the Cure events that took place on Oct. 4 across Canada. Another Stouffville team, Walky Talky, headed by St. Bn'gid Catholic School teacher Linda Scanga, earned the school team challenge award for raising $2,898.
