Granted we cannot find every- thing that we need in a few retail shops on Main Street, but we can make a greater effort to shop for items like children's toys and gifts (especially with the approach of the holiday season), ladies clothing, jewelry, floral arrangements and so forth. I enjoy my strolls along Main Street, stopping in at the local shops, chatting with the staff, mak- ing a purchase and then ending the experience with a cup of cofiee at I, too, encourage shoppers to think twice about where we pur- chase some of our goods. Kudos to the author of the let- ter written regarding our need to Sustain and maintain Stoufi‘ville’s downtown core and its small busi- nesses. Re: A quiz before you shop, Stoujj‘i/ille, letter to the editor by Corinne Newell, Oct. 25 Small-town shops part of Stouffville’s attraction As a daughter of immigrants, I am very proud to call myself Cana- dian. I, too, am a native Canadian and my Canada is one that I am very proud to raise my children in. [ETTERS POLICY We are only 40 minutes away from Toronto where multiculturalâ€" ism is thriving; a true representaâ€" tion of today’s Canada. The Canada of 1900 is history. We are what we are today because our forefathers had a vision of a great country in which people of all nations could live in peace. Thanks to them, we have that today. Immigrants make Canada what it is. Like it or not we all came from somewhere else and made this great nation what it is today. The world looks to Canada as a model of global harmony. This country has developed laws to curb discrimination in our community and in our workplaces because it is not okay to spread hatred, no matter how you frame it. The laws of this country support tolerance and unity, diversity and peace. As I write this letter, grants are fighting for Canada all over the world. They are fighting for you, too, Mr. Upton, and those like you who would suggest that racism and hatred, cleverly disguised as patriotism, is OK I feel I must respond because Mr. Upton reflects an opinion I have heard repeatedly in this town. Mayor Wayne Emmerson said Council not listening to residents’ safety concerns I, for one, would like to maintain the quaint country atmosphere that drew me here in the first place. Our new population increase and Mr Emmerson and town stafl are helping us move forward with the two new ice rinks. I don’t think we can complain about ice time or training anymore. I look forward to all our young hockey players having enough ice time and a proper place not only to train but to have the proper training and that will go a long way. This was my first time involved with town meetings and a few other meetings at the town offices. The municipality allowed minor hockey to have a part in the process and gave us a multi-purpose room at the new facility. This room can be used for warm-up and team meet- ings and many other uses. This, along with another new facility, The Shooting Lanes being opened next month by the Pelowich family next month, should give us all the advantages to continue our success as a league and continue striving to be the best. Re: Ground breaking for rinks fire hall, Nov. 16 I would like to thank Mayor Wayne Emmerson, Councillor Rich- ard Bartley and Tom Graham and Rob Raycroft of the leisure services department for all their efforts. Of course, there are a lot of people to thank but these people helped give us what we needed and it is long over due. The new rink is coming. It took a long time. but they have finally broken ground. The wait- ing lists are ready to be emptied in minor hockey. More titles ahead thanks to new hockey rinks A big thanks to the top brass 0f Whitchurch-Stoufl‘ville.
