Since launching a charity golf event in 2004 called Gajan’s Golf Classic to raise funds for The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation, Gajan has raised $60,000. The hospital’s foundation honoured Gajan Thursday at its annual donor hall celebration. Penny Kroll, a foundation spokesperson, said honourees include individuals who raise a minimum of $50,000 through charity events or corporate gifts. Gajan is one of the youngest individuals to receive the award. “It’s really amazing with what he's done because many youths at his age are more into doing other things like playing video games,” Ms Kroll said. Gajan acknowledged he was surprised when first hearing about it one month ago through his parents, Siva and Shireni. Gajan also conceded when he first began his charity golf event he didn’t think it would get as big as it has. In his inaugural event in 2004, he raised $15,000. In 2005 the total was $20,000. In the last event in 2007, he raised $25,000. While satisfied with what he’s done with his event to date, Gajan isn't about to stand pat. Next year, he intends to stage his fourth Gajan’s Golf Classic.
