The inaugural Comstock festival is taking place Aug. 9 in Whitchurch- Stoufl'ville, boasting of good food and quality music. \ * -~ ~ ~. “It's a music festival for anyone and everyone,” said Allan Reesorâ€"McDowell, one of the organizers. “We’re going to have lots of good food for everyone." The event runs from 10 am. until 10 pm. at Willowgrove, 11737 McCowan Rd, just south of Stouffville Road. At least 14 acts will perform, includ- ing Blank Blue Skye, Bryan Moyer Sud- erman. Joel Kroeker and Crush Luther. Besides the wide variety of music, ranging from folk to punk rock to reg- gae, an assortment of ethnic food will also be served. The menu includes homemade ice cream and Canadian. Chinese, Salvadorian, Colombian and Mediterranean favourites. And com, too, of course. Ticket buyers can swim from noon to 6 pm. in the pool on site, provided they bring their own bathing suit and towel. Y6u can bring basketballs, baseball equipment and Frisbees to take part in games. 7 v The festival is being organized by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Ontario, a relief development and peace organization. MCC's objectives include sending assistance to communities recovering from wars and natural disasters, encour- aging and supporting local churches in their quest to provide food, health care and education to community members and educating people on how to create peace in their communities. “MCC does a variety of things," Mr. Reesor-McDowell said. “The programs range from refugee resettlement to working internationally, development work, food and security projects." The festival is aimed not only at those connected with the Mennonite church. but the entire community. “We want this to be a welcoming event for anyone in the community," he said. “We’re (also) trying to find ways of getting younger people involved in MCC.” ’ The event will go on rain or shine. Participants are asked not to smoke, drink, do drugs or bring pets. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. A family of four will pay $35.
