Although the Town has a long-standing practice to replace lead pipes within its distribution system, there may be some privately-owned lead pipes connected to the Town’s water system which homeowners have not replaced. Also, there may be lead pipes or plumbing present within a. home. Testing is to take place in both the communities of Stouffville and Ballantrae/Musselman’s Lake and residents are encouraged to take part in the Town’s voluntary lead testing program. Priority will be given to older homes which may have private lead water services or plumbing. This program will involve testing tap water twice a year in the volunteers home. All sampling will be undertaken by identiï¬ed Town waterworks staff members. COMMUNITY LEAD TESTING PROGRAM The Town is seeking assistance from residents to meet new provincial water quality legislation. The legislation requires that private residential plumbing and municipal water systems be tested for the presence of lead. REMOVAL OF SNOW 8: ICE FROM SIDEWALKS The Town is requesting your cooperation to clear away snow and ice from sidewalks abutting your property. Town regulations provide that snow and ice be removed from sidewalks within 12 hours after a snowfall. ' Trees greater than 1.8 metres (6 feet) in height are to be cut in half for easy disposal.
