problems of a school bus driver thursday november s3 1972 the tribune pe 5 stouffville the tribunes page 1 story nov 16 concerning a preventative accident program related to school buses has aroused comment from several drivers one of these reads as follows as a bus driver i was glad to see your front page comments the emphasis on maintenance is well founded however this is not our main con cern i offer the following points 1 i invite any parent news editor school board member or principal to stand outside the stouffville high school and witness the shambles that occurs every afternoon as students fight and push their way onto the bus 1 2 at orchard park school the principal serves as policeman every afternoon to ensure the safety of his pupils this action is necessary due mainly to the attitude of some parents who insist on parking their cars on both sides of the road often preventing buses from approaching the exits let alone turn a bus drivers face a tremendous responsibility as they transport hun dreds of children to and from schools in york county five days a week in north towards main street my recom mendation is dismiss the bussed children 10 minutes early and enforce the no parking ban on sunset boulevard 3 the little 8 year old girl that was killed was a pupil at st marks school also in stouffville for two afternoons following that tragedy two teachers were assigned to supervise the children and make them stand in orderly lines now however were now back to normal a con centrated rush of pupils out from the retain goodwood crossing guard goodwood one unpatrolled when school recommences present once again was stanley cragg candidate for deputy reeve as a delegation of one it would appear that the board of education has authority to stop crossing guards it appears to the citizens that local council has not done anything about it and is not concerned talk is that if there is no guard there will be no children at school reeve bob nesbitt indicated councils annoyance with the ontario county boards decision to stop financing crossing guards and suggested copies of the petitions be sent to the authority along with a letter expressing these feelings i dont think thats going to hold one particle of weight commented councillor darcy higgins the petition is petitioning us not the board if theyre not going to pay for a guard we must the money either comes from the village of goodwood or the twp of uxbridge deputy reeve don jackson added that he didnt understand why there had been a petition at all its never been our in tention not to have a crossing guard a resolution was passed that the township would hire a guard for goodwood if the board did not accept what council feels is its proper responsibility later in the agenda a letter from the board offering the 5th line school to council for 62500 precipitated some wrathful comment the offer will be declined in a letter which will also point out that when the school is sold suf ficient funds would possibly accrue to finance the expence of having a crossing guard at goodwood for some years la friend w tpftimmrm rrshrusytokreep your mouth yourmmo j opematthesametimex
