record their wishes in last weeks federal election of course i must give a special thankyou to those voters who chose to vote for me some 456 percent this pc vote was approximately 10 percent higher than the national average for the pc party our win was most gratifying it is both easy and difficult to comment on election results the morning after every election there are many columnists observers and pundits who miraculously can tell exactly what was done right and what was done wrong in the preceding campaign theirs is the easy task in my view it is difficult to accurately assess the reasons why any group of voters choose to support one candidate over another for campaign purposes we divided york simcoe into five areas while we carried each area two areas had a significantly higher progressive con servative vote than the other three in simcoe we were approximately 2000 votes ahead of our nearest rival which i feel reflects a return in simcoe to their traditional con servative voting pattern in the 1968 election that area went conservative but only 300 votes trudeaumania is gone now and the vote in simcoe has returned to the pcs the area has an unbroken record of voting conservative since confederation and i am pleased that that record has been continued with an increased con servative vote in 1972 whitchurch stouffville also gave us hww ii churchill celebrates 100 perceiit of the vote it is probably just a coincidence but in my april survey on the proposed airport the residents of the same area indicated that they were 65 percent opposed to 31 percent in favor of and 4 percent undecided about the airport the other three areas in the riding newmarket east gwillimbury aurora oak ridges lake wilcox and king vaughan while recording a good plurality for myself did not show the large plurality that was demonstrated in the other two areas of the riding in these latter areas the pc vote was more in line with local riding averages it now appears that mr trudeau intends to form a government and meet parliament for a time the pcs when they had a one seat margin felt that they would likely be called upon to form the government we are disappointed that this is now unlikely certain decisive government measures must be taken especially in the economic field in canada i earnestly hope that if mr trudeau does form a f ontario county christmas seal campaign
