editors mail thursday november 9 1972 the tribune page 5 ballantrae study should occupy planning priority dear sir on reading your nov 2 issue i was much disturbed by town councils con sideration of yet another plan for spot rezoning for sub dividing in the ballantrae area it is my understanding that an approved official town plan does exist for this area and this spot rezoning is con trary in every way to that plan the function of a town plan is to provide planning board and council with a sense of predetermined dir ection and var iance from this plan should be the extreme exception i rather than the rule as recently demon strated the present school at ballantrae and the bussing facilities to both elementary and high school are at best overtaxed the local recreational facilities are proving inadequate for the present population it would seem desirable that no further development be permitted until town council can provide an accurate census of the hamlet it has been suggested to me by several concerned parties that the population of ballantrae may presently exceed five hundred the maximum number for a hamlet according to the official plan the town council and any prospective developers have an obligation to provide essential services in order to protect both the established home owners and the un suspecting pur chasers i would therefore suggest that in any future plan for development the builder be required to provide services it is well known that much of the land in this town could be pur chased by developers for future subdividing council has a moral obligation first to protect the best in terests of its residents before the interests of the developers jim wong rr 3 stouffville dear sir the death of the lady motorist following a collision at the in tersection of the bloomington road and hwy 48 was indeed a tragedy however it is becoming increasingly irritating to me to read in the tribune and elsewhere the written complaints of uxbridge twp councillor clark muirhead his beefs deal with everything from gravel pits gravel operators gravel trucks and roadbuilding to the proposed airport i would like to point out to councillor muirhead that for every accident caused by a gravel truck or any kind of truck for that matter there are ten caused by automobiles as a matter of fact truckers are the most courteous drivers on the road in my opinion mr muirhead has cost the taxpayers of this municipality many- thousands of dollars in legal fees and court a final dip all summer long a pair of white ducks have attracted the attention of visitors to the claremont conservation area pickering twp the but with fall here and winter on the way days for warm swims in the sun are over jim thomas hearings all out of the public treasury nor is he himself immune from the need of gravel several years ago i delivered several loads to his 6th concession residence rather i could have suggested he obtain it from a supplier in kapuskasing have it shipped by rail to claremont and then by horse and wagon or wheelbarrpw to his home it might have cost him 125 a ton but then who cares about expense as the saying goes if you dont like it leave it jiakkhaji i wish to extend my thanks and ap preciation to all those who supported me in the federal election of october 30th while i was not successful i believe we did succeed in creating an awareness on the part of the people of this area as to the kind of priorities that we as a society should expect from our federal government i am confident that the concerns voiced by the new democratic party and myself during this election campaign will compel the new government to move in a direction which will satisfy these concerns in this respect therefore i believe we have been successful i want to assure you that i will continue to press for these new priorities through every avenue open to me i am confident also that you will eventually place your trust in the new think we ought to look at it again the new study will probably begin early in december and take longer than four months to complete the main purpose is to consider public opinion and workshops will be held in different com munities in which local politicians planning experts and concerned citizens will be invited to participate the additional study is expected to cost between 100000 to 200000 if
